Varpaisjärvi black is a wonderful fine-grained and evenly black stone. The black of Lake Varpaisjärvi is a diabase. It is currently one of the most common gravestone materials. In addition to the shiny black surface, the stone can be given a beautiful shade by means of surface treatments such as matting, burning, cross-hatching and blocking.
